WHAT IS CONTRACTING IN THE COUNSELLING ROLE?
This is a contract where you and I have agreed a contract covering the following:
- Dates and times of therapy sessions.
I usually recommend 6 initial sessions that usually last between 50 minutes and one hour. They will be reviewed at regular intervals and adjusted to meet your needs.
- How much it will cost. £30 - £45 per hour
Reduced rates for counselling students and un-waged
- How and when I can be contacted
- The Limits of Confidentiality.
If I take supervision notes what I do with them and where they are kept.
- What a supervisor is and what role she plays.
Clarification of the nature of our relationship: that it is a professional one where I will not be a personal friend.
- I will explain about the cancellation of session procedure, or what would happen should you start to feel better before the allocated sessions have ended.
- I will explain about the code of practice and the standards of practice I adhere to.
- I will provide 2 copies of my contract for you to take away and read thoroughly before you sign. Then we will hold a copy each for our records and reference.
- I will provide a private, safe, confidential place for us to work that cannot be overheard. In the initial meeting I will tell you about myself and advise you of the way I work, the amount of sessions that may be required, the fee costs and we will contract to make sure that you understand about the therapeutic model that I use and what I can offer.
- I would like to think that people find it easy to approach me and that they can discuss anything that worries them confidentially. I am open and welcome challenge and appreciate honesty and if there is something that I am not doing I would like to know so I can help to rectify this.
- Supervision is a means of ensuring that I behave professionally and adhere to the British Association of Counselling's Code of Ethics and Practice. It ensures that I work with you in the best way to bring about the changes you want in your life.
- You can end counselling at any time. The process is about and is for you, and will be explained fully when we contract to work together.
